Review of Bloodlust: In Another Life by C. R. Benson

This book is definitely not your typical werewolf story. Bloodlust: In Another Life by C.R. Benson is a true-to-life story with a twist of creative imagination using religious beliefs. Legend has it that the world was created in peace and harmony. This peace would be interrupted when the devil learned of human existence. The devil came to the new world in the form of a snake to make evil known to humans. A few years later, the thirst of blood seared through the devil. With the instinctive drive of hate for humanity, evil returned, and hence the curse had Bloodlust by C. R. Bensonbegun.

The story begins in modern-day Pennsylvania. Derrick, the main character, struggles after he made some bad choices in life. Hanging out with a gang landed him in “juvie”. Being a part of this gang is not something Derrick was proud of, nor would he talk about. He was determined to move away from the life he led and start anew. He was excited when he was accepted to a prestigious college in another town. Given a second chance in life, Derrick was trying everything he could to change his life for the better. He made new friends, and started to relax and socialize with them. Derrick still carried deep, dark secrets about his past in hopes that one day he could put it all behind him. But there was one thing he could not forget – he had a mysterious circle on his chest about the size of his fist that would burn him on occasion. He needed answers! Unfortunately, his past would follow him until he could set himself free. It was a struggle, but he would do whatever it took to keep his friends and family safe from his former life. But it was getting harder and harder to keep the mysterious circle a secret from his best friend Mila.

C. R. Benson captured my attention using religious beliefs to create his story. I can be a bit of a skeptic when reading a book in this genre. In my opinion, it seems once you read one werewolf story the rest that follow are all the same. But I was captivated from the first page of this book. This was truly entertainment at its best! I’d even go so far as to say Bloodlust: In Another Life is a must read for all werewolf enthusiasts and for those skeptics who need a change. I can’t wait to read the rest of the series!
