Editing vs. Proofreading
Editing and Proofreading are two very different things. Editing is the first step in getting your manuscript or document prepared for publication. Editing checks grammar, spelling, punctuation, consistency, accuracy, formatting and other content issues. Proofreading is the final stage of checking your manuscript for any errors in spelling, grammar and punctuation. It is meant to catch any mistakes that might have gone unnoticed during the editing process.
To determine whether you need editing or proofreading services, please review the graphic below:
Before giving you an editing or proofreading quote, I will need a sample of your manuscript. Below is the process for doing this.
What You Need to Know Before Submitting a Sample of Your Manuscript:
Your manuscript must be double-spaced, using 12-point Times New Roman, with a one-inch margin on all sides, and no more than 250 words per page. You must be willing to send me twenty initial manuscript pages so I can determine what type of edit you need. This will be done prior to payment. As I charge by the page, editing and proofreading fees are determined by the amount of work involved. *Your twenty initial pages are for assessment only and do not include corrections (again, there is no fee for this assessment).
After assessing your manuscript, I will email you a quote. I require payment in full via PayPal invoice. Please do not purchase any editing or proofreading services if your manuscript is not yet complete. No advance orders (manuscripts still in the writing stage) will be accepted. Fees for Basic Proofreading services start at just 1.00 per page.
After payment is made, you will need to attach your manuscript file in an email to me as a Word file. I will make any necessary corrections via Word’s track changes feature. If you are unfamiliar with this feature, please refer to this article.
I give your manuscript all the time and attention it deserves. For manuscripts 200 pages or more, I require at least 30 business days for completion, although most manuscripts are completed sooner. For manuscripts 200 pages or less, I require at least 20 business days for completion, although most manuscripts are completed sooner. *Rush jobs will incur an additional fee.
Blog posts, articles, resumes, etc.:
Fees for shorter projects vary and will be discussed in detail via email.
